As the leaves change color and the crisp autumn air settles in Buena Vista, I find myself reminiscing about Halloweens gone by. The View Cafe & Gifts, the cozy spot you all know and love, holds a special place in my heart, not just because it’s a community favorite, but because it used to be my home. My parents moved into this very space when I was just a year old, and it’s watched me grow up in ways no one else could.
My first Halloween was spent here, toddling around in that classic 90’s pumpkin costume—you know the one! Puffed up and bright orange, I was the perfect little pumpkin, soaking in the magic of Halloween.
Over the years, this space has seen me dressed as Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz more times than I can count. In fact, it’s no exaggeration to say that The Wizard of Oz has played in this house over a thousand times. It was my go-to movie, and whether I was in costume or not, Dorothy’s journey always felt like it came to life in these walls.
But Halloween in this house wasn’t just about costumes or movies. It was about family, fun, and the joy of coming together. My parents hosted Halloween parties here for as long as I can remember, filling the house with laughter, music, and an energy that only Halloween can bring. I can still hear the echoes of those parties—carved pumpkins on the porch, spooky decorations transforming every corner, and the feeling of community that made every October 31st something special.
Now, as The View Cafe, this space continues to be a place of connection and celebration. My mom, ever the party planner, is determined to carry on the tradition with our very own Halloween Boo-tique Bash. Her goal is simple: to bring the same joy that our family has felt over the years to all of you. We want to create new memories together, filling the cafe with the same warmth and excitement that once filled our home.
