Growing up, Friday night lights were nothing short of magical. My brother played football, and those evenings were a blend of anticipation, community, and pride. My mom’s love of hosting meant that our house became the hub on game nights. Whether it was my friends dropping by or my parents’ circle gathering to chat, our home was filled with people and energy—a space alive with the excitement of what the night ahead would bring.

The pre-game rituals were almost as thrilling as the game itself. People—some dressed in Buena Vista Demons gear, others just there for the camaraderie—would fill the kitchen, snacking and laughing. The scent of something delicious was always wafting through the air, and my mom made sure everyone felt welcome. By the time we headed out to the stadium, you could feel the sense of community as the crowd settled in, cheering with all their might under the glow of those bright stadium lights.

Sundays brought another kind of tradition. My dad, a loyal sports fan to his core, would trade in his Buena Vista shirt for his Broncos jersey. He was the kind of fan who wore his team’s colors proudly, regardless of how good or bad the season was going. My dad’s unwavering loyalty wasn’t just inspiring—it was infectious.

Those Sundays weren’t just about football, though. They were about togetherness. There was something so comforting about the rhythm of it all—friends and family gathering, the sound of the game on TV, and the spread of food that seemed to define the day. Whether the Broncos were playing or another team had our attention, the experience was always the same: warm, loud, and delicious.

I love sports and truly enjoy watching football with my dad and brother. However, I don’t really love the team colors, so this year for the Super Bowl, I’ll be choosing to wear the Mary Square Yay Sports sweatshirt instead. Just to be clear, I do know what I’m talking about when it comes to football—I’m surrounded by sports stats fanatics in my life, so I am definitely not a poser. I just like to look cute while enjoying the game!

Speaking of food, I have to highlight some game-day essentials that make any sports gathering feel extra special. Stonewall Kitchen has incredible offerings that are perfect for your Super Bowl party. Their wing sauces bring just the right amount of kick to game-day wings, and their salsas are absolute crowd-pleasers. I’m a huge fan of their pizza kit—it’s such a fun way to make something interactive and tasty. And if hot dogs are part of your lineup, don’t skip their ketchup, mustard, and relish—they elevate the classic hot dog to something memorable. We also have a wonderful selection of serving platters for your wings, hot dogs and hamburgers.

For me, the Super Bowl isn’t just about the game or the halftime show (though I’ll admit, I love a good halftime performance). It’s about the nostalgia it brings and the way it reminds me of those Friday nights and Sundays spent with the people I love most. It’s about the food that’s shared, the laughter that echoes, and the joy of being together.
As I get ready for this year’s Super Bowl, I can’t help but smile thinking about the traditions we’ve built over the years. Whether you’re watching the game for the love of football, the commercials, or just an excuse to hang out and eat, I hope it’s filled with good memories, delicious food, and a little bit of that Jewell family spirit.
Cheers to sports, loyalty, and the joy of game day!
