There’s something incredibly grounding about a good dad.
My dad has always been that steady presence in my life. I never had to wonder if he was going to show up, if he was proud of me, or if he loved me—because he made it so clear, every single day. If you know my dad, you’ve probably heard him proudly share stories about my life—whether it’s big accomplishments or everyday moments. He’s been there for every milestone, cheering me on through graduations, new jobs, and the goals I’ve worked hard to reach. He carries those memories with pride, the way only a dad who’s walked beside you every step of the way can.
He doesn’t just love me quietly—he cheers for me loudly. And honestly? I got lucky in the dad department.
When I drive home to visit, he’s tracking my route the whole way (if you know, you know). And without fail, when I pull into the driveway, he’s there, standing on the front porch, arms open wide, ready to hug me. Sometimes he’s even jumping up and down because he’s just that excited to see me. That’s the kind of love I carry with me every day.
So as Father’s Day approaches, I’m reflecting on what it means to have a dad like that. And I’m thinking of all the fathers, grandfathers, uncles, stepdads, and mentors who show up with love and loyalty—who steady us.
